Whether you are an experienced dancer looking for a competitive team or a beginner wanting to learn the waltz or rumba, the Columbia University Ballroom Dance Team is for you. We offer an extensive array of classes, split into competitive and social classes.
Classes are offered weekly and by level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and they are taught by professional dance instructors.
All practices are supervised: an upper level dancer will always be there to assist you if you have any questions.
You will find a casual atmosphere with the opportunity to experience both the social and competitive side of ballroom dance.
No partner, previous dance experience, or special footwear is required.
Competitive or Social Dancing?
Competitive
If you want to be serious about learning ballroom dance, then join our competitive classes (Standard and Latin). Neither experience nor a partner is needed, and competitions are completely optional. From our professional taught classes, you will learn the grace, elegance, passion, and energy of standard and latin ballroom dances, including the waltz, tango, rumba, cha cha, and many more (to learn more about the dances, please visit the Resources tab). Then, apply what you learn in class at competitions in the enjoyable and fun-filled company of your peers. Reach for the gold, defend Columbia's name, show everyone what you're made of, and simply just have the time of your life. All in all, the excitement of the competitive class is an unforgettable experience.
Social
Not ready for the pressures of the commitment of the competitive class, but still want to experience ballroom dance to the fullest? Then join our social classes! Learn the moves in a friendly, casual atmosphere. No experience is necessary.
