The first week of classes is FREE, so invite everyone you know to try out our classes!
Please note that Standard and Latin will begin this week (1/23-24), but social class will begin the following week (2/1).

Christmas Week!

This week is Christmas week! It's your chance to ask our instructors to teach you anything you want! Paso? Smooth? Viennese Waltz? Anything (within reason) is fair game! Also, everyone is welcome to attend all three classes.
In other news...our Christmas Party will be next Monday, 12/12, 10:30p-12:00a in Lerner C555. Come by for exciting performances, a fun dance competition (winning couple receives a private lesson up to $100), and a round of white elephant gift exchange (gift limit $10). We will also be taking an official team photo at the party, so come looking your best!

This week we are collecting full dues! Please come prepared to pay with cash or check unless you have worked something out with Vangie, Abigail, or Helen. You will not be allowed to dance if you have not paid!

Salsa Outing: Friday 10/14
Our first social dance outing of the year will take place on Friday, October 14th. The group will meet at the 116/Broadway gates at 8:30pm. If you would prefer to meet the group at the venue, it is at a dance studio called "You Should be Dancing" in Club 412 (412 8th avenue, 31st street, press 4 on call box for entry).
The event lasts roughly from 9pm-1am. Bring $10 and shoes you feel comfortable dancing in! See below the official blurb for the event:

For Standard and Latin, the first two sessions will be exactly the same, so come either at 10:00p or 10:45p. For experienced dancers, feel free to try the classes this week or speak to a board member to determine which level would best suit you.

End of Year Social on 5/2

Our end of year social will take place in Lerner (C555) on Monday 5/2 from 10pm to midnight. We are celebrating the end of a great year and have a number of things planned: free food, music, fun dances, games... We will also be raffling off prizes such as one-semester free dues, one free private lesson (capped at $100 value), jewelry, and more. All team members and friends are invited! Semi-formal attire is recommended, so wear something classy!

This semester, as always, the first week of classes is free. Anyone can attend (no auditions, no experience or partner required), so don't miss this opportunity to try out all of our classes! Below are the dates and locations.

Our Spring showcase will take place on Monday, Jan 24th, from 10:30pm to 12am in Lerner, Room C555. It's FREE, so join us and bring your ballroom-curious friends! The showcase will feature performances from two of our team's top-level couples, and lots of information about joining our club this semester. We'll also be having a FREE Latin workshop after the show, so stick around for more dancing and fun!

Summer Practice Space in the Dodge Fitness Center

Team members are welcome to practice at the gym this summer, in Aerobics Room #3. Here is the schedule (from May 24th to August 14th):
In order to use the space, members must either have valid DFC membership for the summer or pay $10/day. These practices are unsupervised and members should bring their own music.
- Mondays - 9pm-11pm
- Thursdays - 9pm-11pm
- Saturdays - 3pm-5pm

Our end of year social will take place in Lerner (C555) on Monday 5/3 from 10pm to midnight. All team members and friends are invited to enjoy an evening filled with good dancing, free food, free music, free raffle prizes, and awesome people. It will be the last day before study week starts, take a night off!

Social class update: After five amazing weeks of Argentine Tango with Yuriy, we now welcome Gary, a new instructor, and his assistant Rhoni, who will teach the Hustle for five weeks after spring break (check out Gary's bio on our instructors page). Classes will start on Wednesday, March 24, at 10pm in Lerner. For those who will be joining, it will be only $35 for 5 classes! or $10/class as usual. Bring your friends!

Ballroom is back! The first week of classes will start 1/25 with the same schedule as last semester. Note that due to space issues, THE SOCIAL CLASS WILL START ONE WEEK LATER ON 2/3/10.
The first week of lessons will be FREE. New and returning members are welcome to attend and try out all classes. Bring your friends along! You can pay by the class the 2nd week ($10/class) and full dues are expected by the third week for competitive classes.

Because of midterms and spring break, there will be no classes or practices for the next two weeks. The practice spaces will still be open so members can bring their own music and use the space. Classes and supervised practices resume on Monday 3/23.

Membership Dues: The deadline is 2/6/2009 for UPenn Competitors and 2/11/2009 for everyone else.
Social Class: This semester, Argentine Tango.
New Member Policy (Competitive Classes): Since most members have already had a whole semester of Standard and Latin, new members MUST attend at least one practice per week for the first couple of weeks. There will be board members supervising each practice who can help you with the steps, especially if you're a newcomer.

The newly formed CU Ballroom Formation Team will be performing at 12:00AM. Please come support them as they perform for the first time on the ramps of Lerner for Glass House Rocks. There will be food, games, free stuff, and of course, great performances!
Clover Star Classic - Feb 7, 2009

The Clover Star Classic held at the University of Pennsylvania will be the Columbia team's first competition for the new semester. Everyone is encouraged to compete as the team will be traveling to Philadelphia together for this one day competition. The competition will be running from 8am to 10pm on Saturday, February 7th.

Get excited for Columbia's home competition, the Big Apple Dancesport Challenge! It will take place in Roone Arledge Autorium in Lerner Hall on Saturday 12/6. It will be a one day competition with an evening showcase featuring TWO performance couples: Arunas Bizokas & Katusha Demidova, and Slavik Kryklyvyy & Hanna Karttunen. Spread the word and don't forget to get your ticket for this amazing showcase!

The team will be meeting at 12:00 pm on Sunday, October 5th at 116th and Broadway (Columbia gates) for our annual shoe shopping trip. We will be going downtown to Worldtone Dance Shoes to purchase your new shoes! The address is: 230 7th Ave (between 23rd and 24th St) on the 2nd Floor (1 train to 23rd St).

The CU Ballroom Club will be having its annual Fall Showcase on Tuesday, September 16 at 10:00pm in Lerner C555. There will be spectacular performances by professional as well as student couples, a short information session, and a FREE mini-Latin lesson at the end. The end-of-the-year semi-formal will be held on Sunday (4/27/08) from 5:30pm to 8:30pm in the Lerner Party Space. Please RSVP for you and a guest to appear on the guest-list and for a chance to win one of several raffle prizes. ALL non-Columbia guests MUST appear on the guest-list. We will have really delicious food, great dancing, amazing performances, and a chance to say goodbye to our graduating seniors. We hope to see you all there.
